Glazing of terraces is not mandatory and is often carried out some time after their construction is completed. A classic terrace is an open outbuilding with a separate foundation or an area close to the house, sometimes arranged on the flat roof of the house. Usually such an area is covered with a roof that rests on posts, but it has no walls, windows or doors of its own. Glazing allows the terrace to be turned into an enclosed building (outbuilding). A glazed terrace is easier to keep clean, the floors and furniture are protected from precipitation, and you can sit here in cool, windy weather.
Terraces are most often carried out on terraces:
- panoramic glazing because they are open completely, from floor to roof. If there is a solid parapet, the glazing can be mounted on it, if the fence is lattice, the glazing is mounted on the floor behind it;
- cold glazing, as they are not heated and are used only in the warm season. The exception is capital buildings on a solid foundation, with an insulated and leak-proof roof, massive pillars on which it rests;
- sliding glazing, which allows, depending on the weather to make the terrace open to fresh air, or closed to wind and rain. But other options are also possible – folding panoramic windows, a combination of blind and hinged or tilting sashes;
- continuous glazing all around the perimeter (for a terrace extension – except for the side adjacent to the house). Partial glazing is possible if the terrace has a blank wall(s) or if the roof supports are wide enough to act as partitions between windows.
Another interesting option – glazing not only the walls, but also the roof, such a terrace can be used for sunbathing, but it is desirable to equip it with a fabric awning. The technology of glazing depends on the chosen method. When frameless on the floor and to the roof frame are mounted guides, in them are installed tempered glass. When glazing with profile systems, a frame is assembled first, in which double-glazed windows in PVC profile or glass in aluminum profile are installed.
